Take Warning: The Songs of Operation Ivy

Take Warning is a Compilation album featuring covers of known Operation Ivy songs. Played by various different artists. Some of the artists/bands included on this CD are Reel Big Fish, The Hippos, The Aquabats and a lot more. The biggest hit from Operation Ivy, Sound System, was covered by Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and it sounds alright. It’s not the original, that’s for sure, but they do an alright job. Personally I’m not too familiar with this album or OpIvy in general, but that’s also the reason I chose to review it. It gives me a fresh opinion about it, without getting too blinded by fan-ness or nostalgia. Over all it’s a CD that did pretty well, and some of the songs like “Unity” covered by Reel Big Fish actually went on to become quite a hit outside of this CD, or even the OpIvy community. Same said for “Freeze Up” played by The Hippos. I’ll give it a 6/10 because, even though it has good songs on it, I feel that not all bands playing are very well known, and never really hit mainstream succes. I also don’t really listen to Operation Ivy and I’m not really big fan of them as a ska band.
